The early-spring expedition shows that thousands of birds use the lower regions of Artsakh to stay overwinter.

The four-day birding expedition in early March was aimed at discovery of the wintering bird fauna at the Araks River Plain and its tributaries. The flat lands along the delta of Aghavno River, are partially covered by riparian scrubs and woodlands, while further east is a clay semi-desert with some small hills, alternated by thickets.
