Slim, generally rather featureless sparrow with short and stout bill; in flight, long triangular-shaped wings reminiscent of a lark. Has top of head light sandy grey, poorly defined pale supercilium and area under eye; side of head pale greyish-brown, paler moustachial stripe, contrasting darker malar streak; upperparts light sandy grey, slightly darker on uppertail-coverts; upper­wing mostly dark brown, median and greater coverts with broad buff tips, forming a double buff wingbar.
